Bromide in salt deposits

The storage of natural gas in Northern German salt domes and caverns plays an increasing role in energy policy. For this purpose, geological information about the encountered evapo-rites is important for the construction of cavitaries.

For characterization of salt deposits / salt domes and for stratigraphical classification of salt sequences, geochemical analytical methods have obtained more and more importance. Bro-mine, rubidium and strontium are of special interest for studying sodium- and potassium salt, anhydrite and anhydrite plaster.

The Bromide content is deemed to be a measuring index for the grade of concentration in the mother-base, from which the salt had precipitated.
